La Revista Latinoamericana de Psicología, RLP, ha cumplido con su misión de comunicar, de manera ininterrumpida, los principales avances y hallazgos científicos de investigadores del mundo Iberoamericano, destacando el gran potencial productivo de nuestra región. Criterios como la calidad y oportunidad de la investigación, han primado a lo largo de los procesos de gestión editorial de la Revista, poniendo de relieve nuestra capacidad para conducir investigación empírica de alta calidad, implementar técnicas de análisis estadístico y metodologías de investigación variadas, creativas y acertadas, y escoger temas de investigación que respondan tanto a necesidades locales como a preguntas de interés para la comunidad científica en general. Estos criterios de escogencia le han dado a la Revista su carácter actual, y han fortalecido su capacidad para ofrecer a la comunidad científica información actualizada, pertinente y de interés, con un criterio de facilidad y equidad en el acceso a la información. Todo esto gracias al ingenioso trabajo de nuestros científicos y a los diligentes esfuerzos de anteriores editores de la RLP.

El mundo de las publicaciones científicas, sin embargo, eleva cada vez más los niveles de exigencia de las revistas científicas. Los avances tecnológicos y el surgimiento de gigantescas redes de información en torno al conocimiento científico, hacen que hoy nuestras revistas orienten gran parte de sus esfuerzos a diseñar estrategias para mantener y mejorar su impacto relativo al proceso de producción y publicación del conocimiento científico. Para la RLP, la mejor manera de garantizar su nivel de impacto es a través del esfuerzo por mejorar continuamente la calidad de sus procesos de gestión editorial, de visibilidad e integración con las redes de información, y  (de suprema importancia) la calidad científica de sus publicaciones. En este sentido, la Revista promueve la publicación de artículos que se caractericen por el análisis juicioso y sistemático de la información tanto a nivel teórico como empírico, cuya relevancia científica y aporte al conocimiento sea evidente.

Adicionalmente, el cumplimiento con los estándares de publicación propuestos por la APA es fundamental, en tanto dichos estándares hacen posible para el lector, un grado importante de economía en el procesamiento de la información ofrecida. Manejar los mismos códigos de lenguaje para comunicar ideas permite, como audiencia científica, acceder con precisión a los últimos avances del conocimiento en psicología, producidos en Iberoamerica, con la tranquilidad de saber que la información aquí publicada cumple con altos estándares de calidad, garantizados por la calidad de los procesos de evaluación (revisión de envíos y revisión por pares) engranados en la gestión editorial de la Revista.

La Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz, ha puesto en mis manos el cumplimiento de esta tarea;  reto importante que intentaré cumplir con el mejor de mis esfuerzos, respetando siempre los principios aquí mencionados y en la búsqueda del logro de las metas de mejoramiento de la RLP. Afortunadamente, estas metas se hacen más cercanas gracias a los esfuerzos de anteriores editores y de sus equipos editoriales.

The Revista Latinoamericana de Psicología (Latinamerican Journal of Psychology), RLP, has fulfilled its mission of communicating, uninterruptedly,  the main scientific findings coming from researchers from the Iberoamerican world, showing our region’s great productive potential.

Criteria such as the quality and opportunity of selected research has led the editorial work at the Journal, thus highlighting the ability to conduct high quality empirical research, implement sophisticated techniques for statistical analysis, and a great variety of other creative and problem-appropriate research tools,  as well as the choice of research topics that respond not only to local needs but also to the interests of the scientific community as a whole. These choice criteria has given the RLP its actual projection, strengthening its capacity to offer the scientific community updated, opportune and interesting information while facilitating access with equity. All this was possible thanks to the hard work of our scientists and the diligent efforts of previous editors of the RLP.

The world of scientific publication, however, raises its standards more and more every time. Technological progress and the emergence of gigantic informational webs revolving around scientific knowledge, cause our journals to put great efforts in designing strategies to improve and maintain their impact, relative to the general standards for production and publication of scientific knowledge. For us, at the RLP, the best way to improve and maintain a good impact level is through our efforts to continuously improve the quality of our own processes of editorial work; guarantee free access to all audiences; integrate our publication with the main webs of scientific information and, of the greatest importance, secure the scientific quality of our articles. In this sense, the RLP is committed to the goal of publishing scientific articles that are characterized by careful and systematic treatments of theoretical as well as empirical information, and by clearly establishing their relevance and contribution to scientific knowledge.

Additionally, the fulfillment of the APA publication standards, which allow us an important level of economy in the processing of information. That is, dealing with the same norms and codes in communicating our ideas allows us, as a scientific audience, to access the latest findings  in psychology comfortably and reliant that information published by the RLP meets high quality standards guaranteed by peer review and admission standards embedded in the editorial processes of our Journal.

The Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz, has trusted me the attainment of this goal. It is a challenging task that I will try to complete to  the best of my efforts, always respecting the principles here stated, while looking to accomplish the goal of continuously improving the RLP. Fortunately those goals become feasible thanks to the efforts of previous editors and their editorial teams.
